Roadmaster Chassis
Note: Since Coach builders tend change
things from time to time. As this information is based on feedback from
other Motor Home owners and conversations with tech help at Roadmaster it
should be considered as probable and NOT absolute Check your wiring diagrams.
Our concept is to take the power supply and the signal from the ECM that is
enroute to Cockpit Exhaust Brake Switch and divert them through the
BrakeSwitch control box. Since the first step in ALL emergencies and most
stops and speed reductions start with the application of service brake. We
use this premise to control the exhaust brake system. With this concept just
a touch of brake pedal will activate the exhaust With this concept you can
coast when you want to coast go when you want, and have the Exhaust Brake
System armed at all times.
As you look at BrakeSwitch control box there are 6 wires.
1 Purple Wire, 1 Black Wire, 2 Red Wires, and 2 White Wires
The wire color of BrakeSwitch is for identification only NOT for any
code.
(When making the connections, the Red and White pairs of wires are
interchangeable, as long as two wires of the same color are used in the same
splice.)
Below is photo of a typical Monaco Electric compartment (commonly called the
"Front Run Bay" by Monaco). There are two electric
boxes close to bottom of compartment. Arrow (1) is a typical location for BrakeSwitch. The wires we are looking for to divert into BrakeSwitch control
box are in the bundle at (2)
Note:
Some latter coaches use a 3 digit number, see wiring diagram below.
Below Code: Numbers refer to schematic location. Wires are labeled with
letters.
1. Locate wire 62 E: This is EXHAUST BRAKE WIRE Cut this wire
then reconnect the
circuit by attaching each with a Red wire leading to BrakeSwitch control
box.
2. Locate wire 61B: This is EXHAUST BRAKE WIRE ENABLE Cut this
wire then
reconnect the circuit by attaching each with a White wire leading to
BrakeSwitch control box.
3. Locate wire 62A: This is BRAKE LAMPS Attach the Purple wire
to this wire.
4. Take the Black wire and attach it to Ground. Inside the box (3) is a
grounded post.
